The In Flanders Fields Museum has teamed up with Raoul Servais and Raoul Servais Collection to put together an exhibition RAOUL SERVAIS. MEMORIES OF WAR. This expo focuses on the theme of war in the life and work of the international award-winning Belgian filmmaker and animator. Servais lived through World War II as a young fellow and grew up listening to his mother and uncles' stories about World War I. In addition to projecting the short films Chromophobia (1965), Operation X-70 (1971), Tank (2015) and the recent The Tall Guy (2022, a film by Raoul Servais & Rudy Pinceel), the expo includes drawings, paintings and objects from Servais' collection. The exhibition will run until 31 May 2023.
On the occasion of this exhibition, the King Baudouin Foundation published a new book including the manuscript Raoul Servais wrote about his war memories (with numerous illustrations). For sale in the museum shop and www.raoulservaiscollection.com.
Simultaneously, the exhibition RAOUL SERVAIS. A WORLD BETWEEN MAGIC AND REALISM will run at the cultural centre Het Perron, highlighting the person, his artistic processes and search for techniques. This expo, in collaboration with the King Baudouin Foundation and Raoul Servais Collection, runs until 11 March 2023.
Many scenes from his films can be seen as well as the full projection of his short films Nocturnal Butterflies (1998) and Pegasus (1973) / FREE ENTRANCE
